+1 for The Internet!

331st March 2019

A week has passed since my mentorship in SK Bangsar. We were tasked by our Social Engagement lecturer to submit a report regarding our activity. Although at first we planned on having a group discussion at the faculty, in the end, we had to resort to an online discussion, due to some of our members who are unable to make it at the discussed time. Our group leader, Izzati, instructed us with different tasks so that we can get the report done faster. I was in charge of writing a news report alongside two of my other group members, Hasya and Nadia.

The first thing I did before I started writing was to check up on Athirah's progress on i-Learn Ace. With the help of a parent account which is linked to her account, I can check up on her current statistics such as the amount of questions she has answered over the month, as well as her rankings. Speaking of rankings, I was quite amazed that she has been holding on to her reign as the top ranking student in her school! Furthermore, the gap between her and the secondly ranked student is marginally huge, more than twice the score!

The Queen reigns supreme.
With my morale now boosted, I started writing the news report together with my teammates. We've decided to use Google Docs as our platform for writing the news. This was because with the document being in the cloud, it makes it possible for us to share the same document among my teammates, which ultimately makes it easier for us to correct each other's mistakes as well as be up to date with the recent changes made to the document. The platform is also equipped with a chatroom, which further helps with our discussion.
Reliable Google Docs - different colors represent different contributors

We had to first find data regarding the event, such as the amount of students involved and the total amount of funds used. To achieve this we had to do a bit of asking and searching to find the required numbers. Eventually, we finished writing the news report and proceeded with the next task, which was to choose suitable images to be attached to the news along with captions for each of them. To achieve this, we relied on google drive to share the same folder containing all the photos that we took during the two day program. We had a lot of photos taken, close to 150 in total. Choosing 20 among them was harder than expected, but my teammates pulled through and were quick on the job.

If only we could fit all the images in one news report ...

At last, our part of the report was finished! We shared the file to our group leader and she thanked us in return, and continued on with her part of the report. It then dawned on me on just how important it us to have reliable teammates. The news report that we have finalized (which took around 4 hours to complete) was only around 20% of the report. Imagine having to do the report without the help of others! As they say, "Teamwork makes the dream work".

Submission success! - Izzati giving us the thumbs up
