It's a wrap.

Aaand here we are... We have finally reached the final entry of this blog. A lot has happened ever since I had first set foot in SK Bangsar, and I am grateful for every moment of it. Before I begin sharing all the things I've experienced over the duration of this course, I would like to first thank Dr. Nazean for making all of this possible. Without her tutelage, none of us would be able to make all that has happened a reality. I would also like to thank the sponsors for funding our program, with the help of sponsors, we were able to collaborate with ILearn-Ace and experience one of the latest E-Learning platforms available in Malaysia. I would also like to thank SK Bangsar for allowing us to meet with their students, get to know them better as well as allowing us to introduce to them the beauty of E-Learning. In the past, I have been a mentor in many cases. Most of them involve guiding my younger brother in his studies, explaining unclear topics to my fellow coursemates as well

As all things should be ...

Today's report might be a little bit different. First of all, it seems that Athirah's doing a really good job with her exercises. Every week she is sure to be active, mostly doing Bahasa Melayu or Mathematics exercises. What I would like to share with everyone is just how effective it seems to perform the act of "gamification" on matters that to some would be boring or dull mostly due to its repetitiveness. In the case of Ilearn-Ace, it would be the incentive of reaping rewards from answering well in the exercises. The rewards are mostly in the form of coins and experience. As one can observe from the appended photo below, Athirah has been doing Bahasa Melayu practice repetitively. This did not seem to bother her, because she would in return collect a coins based on her marks to be later converted into rewards, mostly in the form of playing games or buying stuff for her avatar. Athirah seems to not prefer to spend her coins on the games provided in the pla

Inconsistencies

It's been awhile since I last checked on Athirah's progress. Unfortunately, she seemed to be inactive in accessing ILearn-Ace for quite a while; therefore I've decided to ask her regarding this matter. I introduced myself to Athirah before explaining my purpose of messaging her.  Thankfully, she had decided to help me out and cooperate. In the process, I also asked her if she could continue doing her exercises, as well as informed her that if she ever has any questions regarding the core subjects, she is free to ask me anytime. The conversation is as appended below (in Bahasa Malaysia). Granted, her response was pretty brief compared to the essay I wrote, but at least she was willing to answer my plight. The first question I had asked her was whether or not ILearn-Ace has proved to be effective in her studies. I asked her this question in hopes of answering the reason why she had reduced her sessions in ILearn-Ace. She gave her answer in point form. According to

Crunching the Numbers

This morning, I poured my coffee for the day, whipped open my laptop and decided to check up on Athirah's progress. She has shown remarkable commitment and consistency in doing her exercises. To top it off, she has also scored considerably high marks on average for all four subjects. For this week's report, I'll be summing up her progress so far on the four subjects, Bahasa Melayu, English, Science and Mathematics. Between the four subjects, Athirah showed the most interest in doing Bahasa Melayu Exercises. Her statistics show great mastery in almost all the subtopics (marked green and turquoise). However, it would seem that she needs to work further on subtopics regarding syntactical formats and excerpting from unformatted texts (as marked by the yellow bars). The red bars indicate that she has to give full attention to improving her ability to comprehend formatted texts and poems as well as building sentence structures. The English exercises on the other hand were ba

+1 for The Internet!

331st March 2019 A week has passed since my mentorship in SK Bangsar. We were tasked by our Social Engagement lecturer to submit a report regarding our activity. Although at first we planned on having a group discussion at the faculty, in the end, we had to resort to an online discussion, due to some of our members who are unable to make it at the discussed time. Our group leader, Izzati, instructed us with different tasks so that we can get the report done faster. I was in charge of writing a news report alongside two of my other group members, Hasya and Nadia. The first thing I did before I started writing was to check up on Athirah's progress on i-Learn Ace. With the help of a parent account which is linked to her account, I can check up on her current statistics such as the amount of questions she has answered over the month, as well as her rankings. Speaking of rankings, I was quite amazed that she has been holding on to her reign as the top ranking student in her school!

Seasons in The Sun

224 March 2019 Nasi lemak is the most important meal of the day! Its our second day in SK Bangsar! This time, we decided to have our breakfast in school, together with the kids. It was a very good opportunity to bond with them even further. While we were at it, we also discussed with them about our plans for the day. The kids agreed to start immediately with i-Learn Ace as soon as we all finished our meals. Switching mentors from time to time can prove useful, especially when a photo needs to be taken! This time, the kids proved themselves independent in being able to access and use the platform. They had no problem logging in, writing e-notes, checking their statistics and retrieving the questions without any external help. As promised, I helped her with her English and Science subjects. For English, we practiced her mastery on prepositions. I gave her brief descriptions of certain prepositions such as "in", "or", and "at". To help her even f

Salam SK Bangsar!

The Students of SK Bangsar, all excited to meet their mentors! 123rd March 2019 Today's the day we finally get to meet our adik (mentee)! As we went further into SK Bangsar's school grounds, we were greeted with sounds of cheerful conversations and laughter from the students. They were all lined up and waiting for us to accept them to our group. Our group's amazing children, with Athirah being at the front line :) I finally get to meet my adik , Nur Athirah Humaira. She is a polite and shy kid. But once you get to know her better, she can prove to be quite the character. When she is with her close friends, she is very cheerful and energetic. Another thing is that she can be a very diligent and hardworking person once she sets her mind with a goal. Just like the rest of the kids, Athirah seemed eager to get to know us better, so after we provided them with breakfast, we immediately formed a circle and had our ice-breaking session. We played games such as Mr. Wh
